


State Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Mir Shahe Alam, MP took part in a series of public engagements in Bogura’s Shibganj Upazila on Friday, focusing on education development, workers’ rights, disaster assistance and community welfare.
Speaking at a discussion meeting and prize-giving ceremony marking National Education Week 2026 at the Upazila Auditorium, the state minister said the country’s education sector is undergoing modernization under the leadership of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman. The event was chaired by Upazila Nirbahi Officer Ziaur Rahman and attended by heads of colleges, madrasas, secondary and primary schools, along with education officials.
“Education is the foundation of sustainable national development. Without improving its quality, it is not possible to build a skilled workforce,” he said, describing teachers as key drivers of nation-building. He added that the government is expanding technology-based learning and improving infrastructure to ensure quality education reaches the grassroots.
Awards were later distributed among top-performing teachers and students in different categories.
Earlier in the day, the state minister joined a colorful rally organized by labor groups to mark International Workers’ Day. The procession began at the Upazila Parishad premises and marched through major roads before concluding with a brief discussion.
Addressing the gathering, he reaffirmed the government’s commitment to labor welfare, including fair wages, safe working conditions and social security. “Protecting workers’ rights and dignity remains a priority, and no form of exploitation will be tolerated,” he said.
In a separate program, the state minister distributed financial assistance to families affected by a recent Kalbaishakhi storm in Ber-Patayir village under Kichak Union. Handing over cheques to the affected households, he said supporting disaster-hit communities is a moral responsibility and assured continued government support for rehabilitation.
Later, he attended a prayer gathering at the historic Mahasthangarh Jame Mosque after Friday prayers, where special prayers were offered for the long life and good health of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman. Addressing the congregation briefly, he highlighted the Prime Minister’s role in advancing development and public welfare, saying his wellbeing is important for the nation’s continued progress. Prayers were also offered for peace, prosperity and stability in the country. Local officials, political leaders, teachers, labor representatives and community members were present at the day-long events.
