


The Pabna Press Club has begun a three-day programme marking its 65th anniversary, stepping into its 66th year.
The celebrations started on Friday (May 1) at 11:00am with a cake-cutting ceremony at the club’s VIP auditorium, followed by distribution of sweets in a festive atmosphere.
District Council Administrator Zahurul Islam Bishu attended as chief guest. Among others present were freedom fighter and former president Rabiul Islam Robi, former president Professor Shibjit Nag, veteran journalist Abdul Matin Khan, current president Akhtaruzzaman Akhtar, general secretary Zahurul Islam, former president ABM Fazlur Rahman, former general secretary Utpal Mirza, and several senior journalists, members, and well-wishers.
On the second day, Saturday (May 2), a procession will start from the press club premises at 10:00am. A discussion meeting will follow at 3:30pm at the District Shilpakala Academy auditorium.
Land Minister Mizanur Rahman Minu, MP, is expected to attend as chief guest, while Pabna-5 MP Advocate Shamsur Rahman Shimul Biswas will speak as the main speaker. The programme will be inaugurated by former president and freedom fighter Anjan Chowdhury Pintu.
Several lawmakers and public representatives, including State Minister for Social Welfare Barrister Farzana Sharmin Putul and MPs from Pabna constituencies, are also expected to attend.
A cultural programme will be held at 6:45pm, featuring performances by popular artists including Sadia Sultana Liza and Muhin Khan.
The celebrations will conclude on Sunday (May 3) with a family reunion, raffle draw, and prize distribution ceremony at the press club auditorium.
Established on May 1, 1961, the Pabna Press Club is one of the country’s oldest journalist organisations. It has played a role in major national events, including the Language Movement and the Liberation War, and continues to uphold professional journalism in the region.
