A mobile court in Kurigram has fined a local businessman Tk 10,000 for illegally storing petrol in a cowshed in Roumari upazila.
The drive was conducted on Friday afternoon in Dantbhanga Union by Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) Rafiur Rahman. During the operation, officials recovered about 30 litres of petrol stored in drums, along with equipment used for selling fuel.
According to officials, the petrol had been stored and sold at higher prices. The fine was imposed under the Petroleum Act, 2016.
The accused, Ershadul Haque, was not present during the drive. His brother, Harun Or Rashid, paid the fine on behalf of the family.
However, Harun Or Rashid denied the allegation, claiming the fuel was kept for personal use and that the complaint was made out of local disputes.
Assistant Commissioner Rafiur Rahman said storing petrol in a residential cowshed is illegal and poses safety risks. He added that the seized fuel and equipment have been taken into custody, and those involved were warned.
Officer-in-Charge of Roumari Police Station Kawsar Ali confirmed the operation and said it was conducted based on a tip-off.
