Titarkandi village in Charshahi Union of Lakshmipur Sadar Upazila witnessed a tragic scene on Friday, March 27, as four members of a family were buried side by side after being killed in a road accident in Comilla.
Local tea shop owner Md. Noor Hossain, whose shop is next to the graveyard, said, “I always hear of multiple burials, but this is the first time I’ve seen four graves being dug at once. It’s heartbreaking.”
The victims were Mufti Abdul Momin, his wife Nilufa Afroz Jharna, their daughter Labiba, and younger son Shahed Ashraf. A 12-year-old son, Abrar, survived the accident as he was sitting in the back of the car and witnessed the tragedy.
The accident occurred on Thursday, March 26, when a private car carrying the family was hit by a Star Line bus at Kalakchua on the Dhaka-Chittagong Highway in Burichang Upazila, Comilla.
Mufti Abdul Momin, originally from Sengab Upazila of Noakhali, had been living in Mohammadpur, Dhaka, and Titarkandi village, Lakshmipur, since his marriage. He was also the brother-in-law of Maulana Faisal Ahmad, the central organizing secretary of Khelafat Majlis.
Funeral prayers for the victims were held after Friday Jumma prayers at the Jame Mosque of Basha Haji Patwari Bari in Titarkandi. The bodies were laid to rest in the family graveyard next to the mosque.
