


A mobile court in Nageshwari has sentenced a young man to one year of rigorous imprisonment for hunting birds with a firearm. The convict, identified as Joynal Abedin, is the son of Matiar Rahman from Bhurungamari Upazila.
On Monday afternoon, locals caught Joynal in the Azmata area of Ramkhana Union after he hunted eight pigeons. Residents detained him and alerted the authorities. Assistant Commissioner (Land) and Executive Magistrate Badruzzaman Rishad arrived at the scene and conducted the summary trial.
Magistrate Rishad found Joynal guilty under Sections 6 and 26 of the Wildlife (Conservation and Security) Act. Along with the prison sentence, a fine of 1,000 Taka was imposed.
The police have seized the gun used in the incident, and the hunted birds were buried as per legal protocol. The magistrate emphasized that such strict actions are necessary to protect the local ecosystem and biodiversity.
