A young man has been detained in Faridpur Sadar on allegations of collecting money from poor residents by promising to arrange “family cards.”
The accused, Md. Saiful Islam, is a resident of Keshab Nagar village under Gerda union. He was handed over to police on Friday evening.
According to locals, Saiful took between Tk 700 and Tk 1,000 from several low-income residents, claiming he could help them obtain government-issued family cards. Suspicion grew when his statements appeared inconsistent.
Victims and local residents then contacted a hotline linked to Faridpur-3 constituency. Following verification, locals detained Saiful and handed him over to Kotwali Police Station around 7:00 pm.
During initial questioning, the accused admitted to taking money and expressed regret, saying he would not repeat such actions.
Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Shahidul Islam confirmed that the matter is under investigation.
