Sister killed brick thrown by brother in Bashkhali

Sister Ripu Akhter (30) was killed by her cousin's brick in Bashkhali, Chittagong. The incident took place at 10 am on Thursday (October 23) at the house of her father in Ward No. 6 of Kathria Union of Bashkhali Upazila.

The deceased Ripu Akhter (30) is the wife of Nur Mohammad Mia of Lashkar Para area of Ward No. 4 of Bashkhali Municipality. She is the mother of a daughter. Meanwhile, the police have detained two people for questioning in this incident.

It is learned that the deceased Ripu Akhter went to her father's house from her husband's house last Tuesday. On Thursday morning, Ripu's family got into a fight with the family of Uncle Farid Ahmed over a land dispute. At one stage of the argument, the cousins hit Ripu with a brick. She was seriously injured. Later, she was rescued and taken to Bashkhali Upazila Health Complex, where the doctor on duty declared her dead.'

Meanwhile, immediately after Ripu Akhter's death, it was reported that Ripu's elder sister's son had stabbed her two uncles indiscriminately and seriously injured them. They are currently undergoing treatment at Chittagong Medical College Hospital.'

Dr. Hamida Akhter, the doctor in charge of Bashkhali Upazila Health Complex, said, 'The body of a housewife named Ripu Akhter was brought to the emergency department of the health complex at around 10:30 am. She died before reaching the hospital. The housewife had multiple injury marks on her neck.'

When asked, Bashkhali Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Saiful Islam said, 'A clash broke out between two families over a land dispute. Several people from both sides were injured in the clash. Ripu Akhter died of serious injuries. The body of the deceased has been sent to the hospital morgue for autopsy. Two people have been detained for questioning in this incident.'
