A tragic road accident claimed the lives of three family members, including a child, in the Mirjarkot area of Patgram upazila on Tuesday morning.
The victims were identified as Shariful Islam (35), his wife, and their young son. The family, originally from Mansapur village in Dinajpur’s Hakimpur upazila, was traveling home on a motorcycle to celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr when a reckless truck struck them near the Mirjarkot Model Mosque.
According to police and local sources, Shariful, an employee of a private NGO in Patgram, was heading to Dinajpur with his family. A speeding truck coming from the opposite direction hit their motorcycle, killing the three instantly on the spot.
The couple's daughter survived the crash but sustained critical injuries. Locals rescued her and rushed her to Rangpur Medical College Hospital for emergency treatment.
The Patgram Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) confirmed that the truck fled the scene immediately after the impact. "We have recovered the bodies and initiated legal proceedings. Efforts are underway to identify the vehicle and apprehend the driver," the OC stated.
The incident has sparked outrage among locals regarding highway safety and reckless driving, especially during the busy Eid travel season.
