Homebound travelers heading to the southwestern districts via the Padma Bridge are experiencing a hassle-free journey this Eid-ul-Fitr. Despite a significant increase in vehicle volume on the Dhaka-Mawa highway since Tuesday morning, traffic remains fluid.
At the Mawa toll plaza, ten dedicated counters—seven for heavy vehicles and three for motorcycles—have significantly reduced waiting times. This efficient processing has prevented the long queues typically associated with holiday rushes, drawing praise from passengers.
However, the journey is not without its flaws. Many commuters reported that transport operators are charging well above the government-mandated fares. While the absence of traffic jams has been a relief, passengers noted that this "fare anarchy" is overshadowing their holiday excitement.
The Munshiganj District Police Superintendent confirmed that 500 officers have been deployed across key points on the Dhaka-Mawa and Dhaka-Chittagong highways. The SP emphasized a "zero-tolerance" policy regarding passenger harassment and vowed to maintain order throughout the festive period.
