Assam Flood Death Toll Rises to 95 Amid Ongoing Relief Efforts

The death toll from the devastating floods in Assam India has climbed to 95, with five people still missing according to the state’s disaster management authority.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma confirmed on Thursday that rescue and relief operations are operating at full capacity. Authorities have established over 1,900 relief centers across the state to provide immediate aid to affected residents, while simultaneously accelerating regional reconstruction and rehabilitation efforts.

Currently, approximately 1.1 million people across 25 districts in Assam remain in severe distress due to the inundation. The northeastern state frequently experiences extensive flooding and widespread infrastructure damage during India's annual monsoon season which typically runs from June to September.

The broader impact across the country is also severe. Since early July, continuous heavy rainfall and related natural disasters have claimed more than 160 lives nationwide. Authorities continue to urge caution and prioritize humanitarian support for displaced communities.
