


The Commander of the United States Pacific Fleet Admiral Steve Koehler concluded a significant three-day official visit to Bangladesh on Thursday aiming to enhance maritime security cooperation between the two nations.
During his visit from 4-6 August 2026 Admiral Koehler held high-level discussions with Prime Minister Tarique Rahman Defense Adviser AKM Shamsul Islam and the Chief of Naval Staff of the Bangladesh Navy Vice Admiral Khondkar Misbah ul Azim. The talks focused primarily on strengthening bilateral maritime security and addressing shared defense challenges in the region.
Beyond official security briefings the US Pacific Fleet Commander paid tribute to the martyrs of the 1971 Liberation War by placing a wreath at the Shikha Anirban (Eternal Flame). He also visited Dhaka's historic Lalbagh Fort emphasizing appreciation for Bangladesh’s rich cultural heritage.
According to official releases the high-profile visit serves to deepen the long-standing security partnership between the United States and Bangladesh.
