Six more children have died from measles-like symptoms in Bangladesh over the past 24 hours highlighting the severe impact of the ongoing outbreak. According to the latest update from the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Thursday four of these recent fatalities occurred in the Dhaka division and two in the Sylhet division.

Alongside the tragic loss of life the DGHS reported 818 new cases of measles and related symptoms nationwide in the last 24 hours—comprising 85 confirmed measles infections and 733 symptomatic cases.

Since the surge began on March 15 the country has recorded a total of 860 fatalities linked to the disease. Of these 96 were confirmed measles deaths while 764 were attributed to measles-like symptoms. Total infections during this nearly five-month period reached 16,740 confirmed cases alongside 133,638 individuals presenting with symptoms.

Despite the rising infection rate, the recovery numbers offer some reassurance. Out of the 115,879 patients hospitalized with measles and related symptoms since mid-March a vast majority—111,857 people—have fully recovered and been discharged. Health authorities continue to monitor the situation urging parents to remain vigilant and seek immediate medical care if children develop a high fever or rash.
