Gas supply to the national grid has resumed from the Floating LNG Terminal (FSRU) in Maheshkhali, Cox’s Bazar following a two-week disruption caused by a technical fault. The breakthrough comes after local and foreign engineers successfully repaired and commissioned one of the terminal's two boilers late Wednesday night.

Md. Yakub Ali Deputy General Manager of Karnaphuli Gas Distribution Company Limited (KGDCL) confirmed the development on Thursday. He assured the public that the ongoing gas crisis in the Chittagong region is nearing an end.

"The situation has improved significantly since Wednesday night" Ali stated, confirming that pipeline distribution to the Chittagong region is actively flowing.

Currently, the terminal is supplying between 200 and 250 million cubic feet (MMCFT) of gas. Of this, about 200 MMCFT is being received via Anwara in Chittagong. While this provides substantial relief it remains slightly below the region's standard daily demand of 260 to 270 MMCFT.

The severe gas crisis began on July 21 when a technical accident at the Maheshkhali FSRU halted its usual 450 MMCFT output. The regional shortage worsened over the past two weeks when supplementary supply from the national grid was also reduced. With operations now partially restored residents and industries can expect rapid improvements in supply stability over the coming days.
