The Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) has announced that metro rail services in the capital will remain suspended on the day of Eid-ul-Fitr. While the government has declared a seven-day holiday for the occasion, the metro will only be closed for the single day of the festival.
An official order signed by DMTCL Director (Administration) AKM Khairul Alam confirmed the decision on Monday (March 16). Officials stated that the early announcement aims to help residents plan their holiday travel effectively.
According to DMTCL sources, train services will resume their regular pre-determined schedule the day after Eid.
With the metro unavailable on Eid day, commuters traveling across the capital will need to use alternative transport. While Dhaka typically sees a decrease in population during the holidays, the metro has become a vital link for those remaining in the city. The one-day break is reportedly intended to facilitate technical maintenance and allow staff to observe the holiday.
As a significant portion of the city's population travels to ancestral villages for the festivities, the capital is expected to be largely deserted. DMTCL expressed regrets for the temporary inconvenience and wished citizens a happy Eid, confirming that all preparations are in place for a smooth resumption of service following the holiday.
