More than 50 workers fell ill after consuming Iftar at a factory in Ishwardi, Pabna, on Monday evening. The incident occurred at 'BD Creation,' a factory in the Munsidpur area of Dashuria Union. Most of the affected individuals are female workers, who have been admitted to Ishwardi Upazila Health Complex and local private clinics.
According to the workers, the factory provides Iftar daily during Ramadan. Shortly after breaking their fast on Monday, many began experiencing nausea, dizziness, and severe stomach pain. As their conditions worsened, they were rushed to medical facilities.
Dr. Tasnim Tamanna Swarna, an emergency department physician at Ishwardi Upazila Health Complex, stated that patients arrived with symptoms including vomiting, chest burning, and dizziness.
"The workers reportedly consumed fried and oily foods for Iftar. While it initially appears to be food poisoning, the high oil content may have also caused severe acidity," she said.
Ishwardi Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Mominuzzaman confirmed that the factory provides Iftar to its staff regularly. "We have visited the factory premises and are inquiring into the matter. The workers are currently undergoing treatment and their conditions are being monitored," he added.
