Despite the commencement of a seven-day nationwide holiday for Eid-ul-Fitr, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman remained at his desk today to oversee urgent state affairs.
The extended break officially began on Tuesday, March 17, coinciding with the Shab-e-Qadr holiday. However, the Prime Minister arrived at his Secretariat office at 11:00 AM to lead a special cabinet meeting.
Principal Secretary Atiqur Rahman Rumon confirmed the Prime Minister’s schedule, noting that he is prioritizing critical state decisions to ensure administrative momentum. Upon his arrival at Building No. 1 of the Secretariat, the Prime Minister was received by Cabinet Secretary Nasimul Ghani and Principal Secretary ABM Abdus Sattar.
This dedication follows a busy Monday, where the Prime Minister was on the ground in Dinajpur to inaugurate the Sahapara Canal excavation project.
The government recently extended the Eid break to facilitate smoother travel for citizens. While the original schedule provided a five-day holiday from March 19 to 23, an executive order declared March 18 a holiday. Combined with today’s Shab-e-Qadr break, public sector employees are enjoying a consecutive seven-day vacation.
Senior officials highlighted that the Prime Minister’s presence at the Secretariat on the first day of such a long break serves as a positive signal for the administration.
Beyond the cabinet meeting, the Prime Minister processed several high-priority files and held briefings with senior officials regarding the country’s overall situation. Sources indicate that the Prime Minister’s Office is also closely monitoring national security and law enforcement to ensure a safe Eid pilgrimage for millions of travelers.
