Three people were killed and two others injured Saturday after a covered van collided head-on with a CNG-run autorickshaw in Gazipur's Kaliakair police said.
The crash occurred around 11:30am in the Kanchanpur Chairman Bari area on the Kaliakair-Fulbaria-Mawna regional road. Two of the deceased are believed to be a mother and son though their identities had not been confirmed.
Police citing witnesses said the autorickshaw was carrying four passengers from Kaliakair towards Mawna Chourasta in Sreepur when it collided with the van coming from the opposite direction. The impact badly damaged the autorickshaw and pushed the van off the road.
Five people, including the autorickshaw driver were injured and taken to Kaliakair Upazila Health Complex. Doctors declared two dead on arrival while a third died later during treatment.
Kaliakair Police chief Shahidul Islam said authorities are working to identify the dead and injured.
