The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has intensified security measures across the capital ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr. Acting DMP Commissioner Md. Sarwar called on residents Tuesday to remain alert and report any unusual activities in their neighborhoods.
Speaking to the media on March 17, the Commissioner emphasized that public involvement is vital for maintaining law and order, especially given the city's high population density relative to police strength.
"Our forces are working tirelessly to ensure public safety," Md. Sarwar said. "However, community awareness is our strongest asset in preventing crime."
The DMP chief advised citizens to watch for. Unfamiliar individuals loitering in residential areas. Frequent or suspicious motorcycle movements. Unusual gatherings of strangers.
He encouraged residents to collectively verify the identity of suspicious persons if safe to do so. For immediate assistance or to report concerns, citizens are urged to call the National Emergency Service at 999.
