An autorickshaw driver was left unconscious and his vehicle stolen after muggers posing as passengers targeted him in Sakhipur upazila on Monday night.

The incident occurred around 8:00 PM in the Pathar Chowrasta area. The victim, Sultan Mia (55), a resident of the Boishar More area in Sakhipur Municipality, is currently receiving treatment at the Sakhipur Upazila Health Complex.

According to family members, Sultan Mia left home with his vehicle at noon but failed to return for Iftar. Concerned relatives began a search and later learned through fellow drivers that a group had hired his rickshaw. The miscreants reportedly used a sedative or chemical to knock Sultan Mia unconscious before abandoning him at the roadside and fleeing with the vehicle.

Locals rescued the unconscious driver and rushed him to the hospital. Dr. Abu Bakar of the Upazila Health Complex emergency department confirmed that Sultan was drugged but stated he is now out of danger.

Helal Uddin, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sakhipur Police Station, confirmed that police have visited the scene. "We are taking necessary measures to identify the perpetrators and recover the stolen vehicle," he said.
