Qorban Ali, an office assistant at Gaibandha Government Women's College, has accused local Awami League leader Jalal Uddin Sanju of defrauding him of Tk 52.44 lakh. The victim shared his ordeal during a press conference at the Gaibandha Press Club on Sunday, joined by his wife and daughter.

According to the victim, Jalal Uddin Sanju—the Organizing Secretary of Kanchipara Union Jubo League—lured him with the promise of securing a Tk 6 crore European mini-project through an organization called "Sangha." Under this pretext, Sanju allegedly extorted Tk 52.44 lakh through various channels, including Nagad and bKash and took six signed non-judicial stamps and two signed blank cheques from Qorban Ali as "security" for the project nomination.

When the project failed to materialize, Qorban Ali demanded his money and documents back. On June 25, when the victim visited Sanju's house to settle the matter, Sanju reportedly threatened him with death and chased him away. Although local arbitration meetings were called by the UP Chairman, Sanju failed to appear. While Fulchhari police investigated the complaint and confirmed the truth of the allegations, the accused remains at large.

Qorban Ali revealed that he raised the money by selling ancestral property and taking high-interest loans from banks, NGOs, and individuals.

Both Ali and his wife (who is also employed) are now living in extreme poverty as their entire salaries go toward loan repayments.

The family is currently unable to stay in their own home due to constant pressure from creditors and fear of the fraudster’s threats. Qorban Ali has sought the immediate intervention of the District Commissioner and law enforcement authorities to recover his money and ensure exemplary punishment for Jalal Uddin Sanju.
