In recent years, the spread of journalistic violence in the rural areas of the country has increased alarmingly. Along with responsible professional journalists, some opportunists are trying to influence individuals, institutions and the general public by using the identity of 'journalist'. As a result, just as real journalism is being questioned, the number of victims is also increasing day by day.
One of the reasons for the increase in journalistic violence in the rural areas is the uncontrolled supply of media cards. Countless 'portals' are being created in the name of various online sites, most of which do not have government registration, no editorial policy, no professional training. Opportunists are using these fake identity cards to put pressure on the administration, businessmen or the general public.
Local administration and business circles complain that some rogue journalists are involved in activities such as demanding bribes, fulfilling personal interests or harassing opponents by threatening to publish news. This not only damages the image of genuine journalists, but also makes the general public distrustful of journalists.
As media owners and editors appoint representatives without due diligence, it is becoming easier for amateurs to enter. Effective action is not being taken against fake identities due to the failure to properly implement the policies formulated by the administration. Public ignorance and fear are giving opportunity to rogues. The weak role of journalist organizations is creating a gap in proper selection and supervision.
Take strict action against unregistered online news portals. Make minimum qualifications, training and policies mandatory for journalism. Conduct regular campaigns against fake IDs and cards. Ensure a transparent recruitment process and identity verification for district journalists and strengthen the protection and position of genuine journalists. It is very important for the government to take steps to save proper journalism.
The rampant journalistic violence in the districts is not only damaging the quality of journalism, but is also threatening social peace and administrative stability. It is time for all concerned parties to come forward together and stop the violence of amateurs. May journalism based on truth and public interest survive this is the expectation of the citizens.
