The resignation of Dhaka University (DU) Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan, has not yet been finalized, according to Education and Primary and Mass Education Minister Dr. ANM Ehsanul Haque Milon.
Speaking to reporters at an iftar event at his Minto Road residence on Saturday (March 14), the Minister clarified the current administrative status.
"There is a gap here," the Minister explained regarding the stalemate. "I have received the resignation letter, and the application has been acknowledged, but it has not been formally accepted yet. The Vice-Chancellor has not been notified of a final decision."
Minister Milon praised Professor Khan’s tenure, describing him as a "polite and competent" academic. He suggested that the government intends to utilize Dr. Khan’s expertise in other high-level roles, specifically mentioning bodies like the Accreditation Council.
Professor Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan officially submitted his resignation to the Education Ministry on February 22. While the Vice-Chancellor’s protocol officer, Mohammad Firoz, confirmed the submission at the time, the ministry has yet to complete the formal transition process.
