Four people were killed and at least 15 others injured after two passenger buses collided head-on in Lohagara, Chittagong, on Saturday morning.
The accident took place around 11:00 am in front of the Four Seasons Hotel area of Chunati Union on the Chittagong-Cox’s Bazar Highway.
According to police and eyewitnesses, two buses operated by Marsa Transport — one heading to Chittagong and the other to Cox’s Bazar — crashed head-on. The impact pushed the Cox’s Bazar-bound bus into a roadside shop, severely damaging the front sections of both vehicles.
Local residents started rescue efforts immediately after the crash. A woman was found dead at the scene, while the injured were taken to hospitals and trauma centers in Lohagara Upazila. Three more victims later died while receiving treatment at Lohagara Trauma Center.
The identities of the deceased were not immediately known.
The collision caused heavy traffic congestion on the Chittagong-Cox’s Bazar Highway, leaving vehicles stranded for several kilometers on both sides. Police later removed the damaged buses and restored traffic movement.
Lohagara Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md. Abdullah confirmed the incident.
Dohazari Highway Police Station Officer-in-Charge Salah Uddin Chowdhury said the injured were sent to nearby hospitals and the bodies would be handed over to families after legal procedures are completed.
