


Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. ABM Obaidul Islam has urged students to dedicate themselves to the welfare of the people, emphasizing that their actions should never cause harm to society.
Speaking as the chief guest at an orientation for first-year undergraduate students on Monday (April 27), the Vice-Chancellor addressed the newcomers at the Student-Teacher Centre (TSC) auditorium. The event was organized by the Student Guidance and Counseling Office.
"Dhaka University provides equal opportunities to all, regardless of wealth, religion, or background," Dr. Obaidul Islam stated. "Students must transform into skilled human resources and good citizens by utilizing their time effectively."
The VC encouraged students to look beyond textbooks, stressing the importance of co-curricular activities, hard work, and perseverance to become "modern graduates" ready for the global stage.
The program, chaired by Director of Student Guidance and Counseling Professor Dr. Mehzabeen Haque, also featured Special Guests Professor Dr. Mohammad Mainul Islam (Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences) and Dr. Mohammad Moniruzzaman Khan (Director, IDMVS).
Freshmen Bishakha Dutta and Prothma Ganguly shared their reflections on behalf of the new cohort. The orientation was attended by various faculty deans, department chairmen, and student advisors, welcoming students from the Faculty of Social Sciences and several specialized institutes, including Information Technology and Leather Engineering.
