The Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) Detective Branch (DB) arrested two suspected arms traders and recovered 150 rounds of foreign pistol ammunition during raids in the city on Friday night. Most of the seized bullets are reportedly of Indian origin.
A team from DB (North) first raided a fast-food outlet in the Wasa More area under Khulshi Police Station, arresting Md. Faisal Ahmed Roni (40) with 139 rounds of live ammunition. Based on his statement, detectives later conducted a follow-up operation in Dampara, Chawkbazar, arresting Aminul Haque Bappi (39) with an additional 11 rounds.
The operation was part of a special drive to recover illegal firearms. During initial interrogation, the suspects confessed to collecting the ammunition from sources in the Chittagong Hill Tracts for use in criminal activities within the metropolis.
Police are currently investigating the supply chain and identifying other associates involved in the trade. Legal proceedings against the duo are underway.
