Man Arrested for Sexually Harassing Child in Narail

Police have arrested Md. Aminul Islam (alias Jamil) 57, the Imam of a local mosque for allegedly sexually harassing a child student in Narail Sadar Upazila.

The arrest occurred on Friday afternoon in the Chakoi Bazar area of Bichali Union. Prior to the arrival of the police, local residents detained and reportedly beat the suspect.

Aminul Islam, son of the late Abul Kasem of Rukhali village, served as the Imam of the Baitus Salam Jame Mosque in Chakoi Paschim Para. He also conducted morning Arabic lessons for local children at the mosque’s maktab.

According to police and case documents, the suspect allegedly used chocolates to lure a young girl into his residence on May 5, where the assault took place. The victim informed her family of the incident on Thursday, May 7. Upon further inquiry, other students also reported similar experiences of inappropriate touching by the Imam.

When confronted by locals, Aminul attempted to flee but was captured and handed over to the authorities.

Ajay Kumar Kundu, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Narail Sadar Police Station, confirmed the arrest. "During initial interrogation, the suspect confessed to harassing children following their Arabic lessons. A case has been formally filed by the victim’s father," the OC stated.
