A mobile court fined two unauthorized drinking water factories a total of Tk 40,000 in Narail's Kalia upazila on Monday for producing and marketing bottled water without necessary permits.
Assistant Commissioner (Land) and Executive Magistrate Sraboni Biswas led the drives in Ramnagar and Pakuria villages. The raids revealed that both facilities were operating without government registration or Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI) approval, posing significant risks to public health.
Under the Weights and Measures Act, 2018, the mobile court penalized factory owners Md. Rezwan Sheikh (Tk 25,000) and Farzana Naju (Tk 15,000). Both fines were realized on the spot.
BSTI Jessore Inspector Md. Rakib Islam, along with law enforcement members from Kalia and Naragati police stations, assisted in conducting the operation.
Emphasizing public safety, Magistrate Biswas warned that regular drives against the unauthorized production and marketing of substandard food and beverages will continue across the upazila.
