Kalia Holds Awareness Meeting on Breast Milk Substitute Act

To mark World Breastfeeding Week 2026 Kalia Upazila hosted a crucial awareness meeting on Monday August 3 focusing on the Breast Milk Substitute Act of 2013 and its 2017 Rules.

Held at the Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) conference room the session educated stakeholders on the strict regulations governing the promotion marketing and usage of breast milk substitutes. Officials emphasized the law's vital role in safeguarding infant health and curbing corporate misinformation.

Key speakers highlighted that feeding infants exclusively breast milk for the first six months—and continuing it alongside complementary foods thereafter—is essential for healthy growth and disease immunity. They stressed that raising public awareness and strictly enforcing these government regulations are necessary steps to protect mothers and children.

The event was attended by UNO Md. Jinnatul Islam Health and Family Planning Officer Dr. Mohammad Shoaib Kalia Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Idris Ali Resident Medical Officer (RMO) Partha Pratim Biswas along with local government officials educators political leaders and media representatives.
