A debate competition on preventing corruption was held Tuesday in Kalia, Narail aimed at raising social awareness and promoting honesty among students.

Organized by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Integrated District Office, Jessore, with support from the Kalia Upazila Corruption Prevention Committee and local administration, the event took place at the Kalia Upazila Parishad hall. Students from Kalia PS Pilot Secondary Girls' School, Kalabaria Secondary School, Shahabagh United Academy and Chanchuri-Purulia Secondary School took part with presenting arguments on the causes of corruption and its social impact and ways to prevent it.

Narail Deputy Commissioner Dr. Mohammad Abdul Salam, the chief guest said law enforcement alone cannot curb corruption honesty, morality and a sense of responsibility must also be nurtured among citizens. He stressed that since students represent the country's future also they must be taught truthfulness, fairness and patriotism from an early age.

He added that families, schools, the administration and the public must work together to build strong social resistance against corruption, noting that events like debates help develop rational thinking and responsible citizenship among students.

The event was also attended by ACC Assistant Director Al-Amin, Assistant Commissioner (Land) Sraboni Biswas, ACC Assistant Inspector Sumit Das, Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md. Jinnatul Islam, and members of the Upazila Corruption Prevention Committee.

Speakers noted that corruption remains a major barrier to development, good governance and human rights, urging efforts to inspire honesty and fairness among the younger generation.

Chanchuri-Purulia Secondary School won the competition, with Shahabagh United Academy finishing as runner-up. Prizes were distributed among the winners and participants afterward.
