Mild earthquake felt in northern Bangladesh, epicentre in Assam

A mild earthquake was felt in several northern districts of Bangladesh on Saturday afternoon. The tremor was experienced around 3:10 pm on May 9 in parts of Rangpur division and nearby areas.

According to India’s National Center for Seismology (NCS), the earthquake measured 4.5 in magnitude. The quake originated in Assam at around 2:40 pm local time.

The European-Mediterranean Seismological Center (EMSC) said the epicentre was near Bilasipara in Assam. The organisation reported that tremors were felt in Lalmonirhat, Rangpur, Dinajpur, Kurigram and Mymensingh districts of Bangladesh.

The United States Geological Survey (USGS) also recorded the earthquake and estimated its magnitude at 4.4.

Meanwhile, several social media users from northern districts reported feeling the tremor.
