Following the fire at the cargo village of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, the government has decided to waive all fees for non-scheduled flights for the next three days, said Civil Aviation and Tourism Adviser Sheikh Bashir Uddin.
Speaking to reporters at the airport’s Cargo Gate No. 8 on Sunday (October 19), he said the fire broke out around 2:15 p.m. on Saturday and was brought under control by 8:30 p.m. after efforts from 37 fire service units. Damage assessment is currently underway to determine financial losses and categorize affected goods.
The adviser said that around 21 flights had to be diverted or canceled due to the incident. To ease passenger suffering, all costs for non-scheduled flights arriving over the next three days will be waived. The government will also cover food, accommodation, and service expenses for affected passengers.
“I sincerely apologize to the passengers for the inconvenience caused,” he added.
