Dr. Shafiqur Rahman, the Ameer (chief) of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, announced today that the party will not form any alliances for the upcoming national election, opting instead to contest the polls independently.
Speaking to reporters this morning at Sylhet Osmani International Airport, Dr. Rahman, who was visiting Sylhet for the first time since being elected Ameer for a third term, made several key points regarding the election and the party's stance.
Dr. Rahman firmly stated, "We have not decided to form any alliance, and we will not form one." This confirms their intention to go it alone in the general election.
The party is committed to contesting the polls independently. He stressed the importance of holding the elections in February 2026 with the participation of everyone. He warned that any delay could potentially lead to "various forms of unrest."
He asserted that there is "no scope for the Awami League in the upcoming election."
Regarding his recent foreign visit, Dr. Rahman shared that he met with Bangladeshi expatriates who expressed "immense warmth and love." He acknowledged their high expectations and desire to contribute to the nation's rebuilding, expressing regret that the nation has not shown them "proper respect" despite their significant contributions.
