Bangladesh is celebrating its 54th year of independence on Victory Day (December 16) with a massive display of patriotism and a new Guinness World Record attempt.
The country successfully held the largest-ever flag-parachuting display in the world. The display featured 54 paratroopers skydiving while holding the national flag, commencing around 12:00 pm.
The event was organized jointly by the Bangladesh Army, Air Force, and Navy. Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus inaugurated the program at the old airport in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar, Dhaka. The event began with a flypast salute by three aircraft of the Army Aviation Group, followed by aerial salutes from the Air Force and Navy.
Similar fly-past demonstrations by the armed forces, along with band shows organized by the Police, BGB, and Ansar, are being held in cities across the country, all open to the public.
The Ministry of Liberation War Affairs is organizing three-day Victory Fairs in all districts and upazilas, as in previous years.
District and upazila administrations are hosting recitation, essay writing, and painting competitions on the Liberation War for children, alongside various cultural events.
The Ministry is arranging Victory Day songs at Suhrawardy Udyan from 3:00 pm, while young artists across all 64 districts will sing songs from the historic Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra.
Cinema halls are screening Liberation War films free of charge for students, while government museums and all entertainment venues are offering free entry for children all day.
Improved diets are being served in various welfare centers (hospitals, prisons, orphanages, etc.) nationwide. Special prayers are being held across all places of worship for the eternal peace of martyred freedom fighters.
