Two Sentenced to Three Months for Drug Use in Gazipur Mobile Court

A mobile court in Kaliganj, Gazipur, sentenced two men to three months of rigorous imprisonment on Monday afternoon for drug consumption.

The convicts are Zahirul Islam, 38, son of Sirajuddin Sheikh from Tumulia village, and Md. Abdullah, 26, son of Zakir Hossain from the Kalapatua area of Jamalpur Union.

The arrests were made during an anti-drug drive led by Sub-Inspector (SI) Rigyan Mollah of Kaliganj Police Station. Officers apprehended Zahirul Islam while he was consuming Yaba in the Kapasia More area, while Abdullah was caught using marijuana in Kalapatua.

Upon being produced before the mobile court, Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) and Executive Magistrate Zakia Sarwar Lima handed down the sentences. The ruling was issued under Section 36(5) of the Narcotics Control Act, 2018.

SI Rigyan Mollah confirmed that both individuals have been processed following the court's order.
