


The Bangladesh National Parliament Secretariat has issued a notification appointing six Members of Parliament as whips. The notification was released on Monday, March 2.
According to Article 3(1) of the Bangladesh Whip Ordinance 1972, the appointments were made by the President of Bangladesh.
The newly appointed whips are: Alhaj Md GK Gaus (Habiganj-3)
Rafiqul Islam (Khulna-3)
Mia Nuruddin Ahmed Apu (Shariatpur-3)
M Ruhul Kuddus Talukder Dulu (Natore-2)
Md Akhtaruzzaman Mia (Dinajpur-4)
ABM Ashraf Uddin Nizan (Lakshmipur-4)
The notification was signed by Secretary Kaniz Moula of the Human Resources Branch of the Parliament Secretariat, acting on behalf of the President.
Meanwhile, Nurul Islam Moni was elected as a Member of Parliament from Barguna-2 in the 13th parliamentary election. He contested the election as a nominee of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party. His main rival was Sultan Ahmed, a candidate nominated by Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami.
A total of nine candidates contested the seat. Nurul Islam Moni secured 89,428 votes, while his nearest rival received 83,015 votes.
Nurul Islam Moni has previously been elected to parliament three times. He won as an independent candidate in the fourth and fifth parliamentary elections and later as a BNP nominee in the eighth parliamentary election.
