State Minister for the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs,Ishraque Hossain, stated that the 1952 Language Movement served as the true starting point for Bangladesh's struggle for independence.
Speaking to reporters after paying tribute at the Central Shaheed Minar on Saturday morning (February 21), the Minister emphasized that the seeds of freedom planted in 1952 reached their full fruition through the armed struggle of 1971.
Minister Ishraq outlined the new government’s commitment to building a state system where all citizens—regardless of religion, caste, or regional background—enjoy equal rights. "Our goal is to build a Bangladesh free from discrimination while upholding democratic values," he said, adding that the current administration is working tirelessly to fulfill the public's expectations.
The State Minister criticized the previous 17-year administration, alleging that democratic institutions and the spirit of the Liberation War were undermined for personal gain. He claimed the period was marked by a "state of looting" and the destruction of the electoral process.
He expressed optimism that the recent elections have restored a truly democratic system, allowing the people’s elected representatives to lead the nation toward a prosperous future for the next generation.
