Chattogram District Council Administrator Mahbuber Rahman Shamim said national poet Kazi Nazrul Islam's life and work should be spread among the younger generation calling him a fearless voice against injustice, oppression and discrimination.
Speaking as chief guest at a discussion and meritorious student reception at Hajigaon Barumchada School and College in Banshkhali's Pukuria Union on Sunday, Shamim said Nazrul's literature helped shape independent thinking, human values and a non-communal mindset. He described Nazrul not merely as a poet, but as a voice for people's liberation.
Shamim said Nazrul's writings championed rights, equality and freedom for the oppressed with making his humanist philosophy highly relevant today in resisting intolerance and moral decline. He said learning from Nazrul could inspire youth to stand against injustice and use their talents for the country's welfare.
He added that BNP has consistently valued independence, democracy, human rights and nationalism also believing that people are the true owners of the state.
Addressing the students, Shamim said good academic results alone do not guarantee success a sense of responsibility, honesty and human values are equally essential. He urged them to grow into skilled, humane citizens who can help build a prosperous, non-discriminatory Bangladesh, stressing that families, schools and society must work together toward this goal.
He also highlighted the role of sports and debate in building leadership, discipline and creativity with pledging the District Council's continued support for such student activities.
The event was chaired by Upazila Executive Officer Md. Ruhul Amin. Other speakers included BNP leaders Mishkatul Islam Chowdhury Pappa, Shakhawat Jamal Dulal, Iftekhar Hossain Chowdhury Mohsin and Professor Dr. Zahurul Alam of Chattogram University along with several local leaders and officials.
