Newly appointed Chittagong District Council Administrator Md. Mahbuber Rahman Shamim says he will leverage his 37 years of political experience to bring the council's services closer to the public. He has pledged a zero-tolerance policy on corruption to ensure good governance and accountability.

Shamim made the remarks during an introductory meeting with council staff on Monday (July 20) morning. He officially assumed his role at the Ministry of Local Government on Sunday (July 19).

Addressing the staff, Shamim emphasized public welfare as the council's primary goal, urging everyone to work with honesty and dedication.

"We want to break away from the past culture of corruption and run this institution with complete accountability," Shamim said. "I will not compromise with any irregularities. I will use my political experience to stand by the people and solve their problems."

Seeking cooperation from the staff, the new administrator promised an open-door policy. "Although I am new here, you are experienced. If you face any issues, speak to me directly. We will ensure a comfortable working environment for everyone," he added.

Acknowledging the council's limited budget, Shamim announced plans to lobby relevant government ministers for increased development allocations for Chittagong. He assured that future development activities would be coordinated with elected representatives to meet public expectations, reiterating that there will be no concessions regarding administrative integrity.

The meeting was attended by Chittagong District Council Chief Executive Officer Chowdhury Rawshan Islam, Executive Officer Khandaker Ikhtekhar Uddin Arafat, Acting Assistant Engineer Md. SM Khaled Uddin Zaman, Administrative Officer Md. Anis Uddin Bhuiyan, alongside other officials and employees.
