Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Tamim Iqbal has expressed optimism that the long-delayed Bangladesh-India limited-overs series will eventually take place, saying the two cricket boards are in regular discussions to find a new window for the tour.
The six-match series-featuring three ODIs and three T20Is—was originally scheduled to be played in Bangladesh in August 2025. Following discussions between the BCB and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), the tour was postponed for more than a year and rescheduled for September 2026.
However, the series is once again facing uncertainty under the current international cricket calendar.
‘No Decision Has Been Made to Cancel the India Series’
Speaking to sports platform Not Out Noman on Sunday (August 30), Tamim said there has been no decision to cancel the Bangladesh-India series.
“There has been no decision that the India series will not happen. Both boards are very serious about the matter. The BCCI and BCB are looking for a possible window. Discussions are ongoing about when the series can be held.”
Tamim's comments come amid growing uncertainty over whether the series can be accommodated in an already crowded international schedule.
According to the BCB president, Bangladesh already have three series scheduled during the relevant period, while India also have a busy international calendar.
“Bangladesh have three series in between. India and the BCCI are also very busy with their matches. Even so, we are discussing the matter regularly and working on the dates.”
Finding a suitable window is therefore likely to depend on the availability of both teams and the broader international cricket calendar.
The Bangladesh-India series was initially postponed from August 2025 to September 2026. With the current schedule creating another obstacle, questions have emerged over whether the tour can take place as planned.
There has also been speculation that political tensions between the two neighbouring countries could affect the series.
Tamim, however, said the discussions between the two boards remain positive.
“Some things are beyond our control. As BCB president, I do not want to cross that limit. But the attitude of both sides is very positive. We are maintaining regular communication.”
If the two boards can agree on a new window, the long-awaited six-match white-ball series could still go ahead.
