BNP has started selling nomination papers for the upcoming Union Parishad elections in Lakshmipur-2 Raipur constituency, drawing crowds of hopeful candidates.
On Monday afternoon, aspiring chairman and member candidates gathered at the Bagh Bari office of local MP Abul Khair Bhuiyan to collect party forms.
Among them was Akhter Hossain Moktar, convener of Tumchar Union Jubo Dal who collected nomination papers for the chairman's post in Tumchar Union Parishad. Party sources said Moktar has been active in BNP politics since his student years, rising through Chhatra Dal before taking on his current role in Jubo Dal.
Leaders and activists said Moktar played an active part in anti-Awami League movements and worked at the grassroots level to support the BNP candidate in the last national election. His supporters noted that he has also strengthened the party's organizational base in Tumchar Union while engaging in community welfare initiatives.
Speaking about his candidacy Moktar said that if nominated he would prioritize the opinions of party leaders, activists and residents and work toward the union's development and welfare.
Nomination papers for the Lakshmipur-2 Raipur constituency will remain on sale from August 30 to September 6.
