Barrister Sakila Farzana has been nominated for a reserved women’s seat from Chattogram.
According to BNP press wing sources, she is the only nominee from Chattogram among 36 candidates selected for reserved women’s seats in the 13th National Parliament election.
Sakila Farzana hails from Dakshinghata village under Patia Municipality, with family roots in Hathazari Upazila. Her husband, Bahauddin, belongs to a well-known business family in Patia.
Her father, the late Syed Wahidul Alam, was elected a Member of Parliament four times on a BNP ticket and also served as the Parliament Whip.
Sakila completed her LLB and LLM from the University of Chattogram. She later obtained another LLB from the University of London and a postgraduate diploma from The City Law College, London.
She joined BNP as a primary member in 2009. On August 18, 2015, she was arrested in a political case and spent around 10 months in prison. She currently serves as a member of the central convening committee of the Nationalist Lawyers Forum.
Party leaders say her involvement in handling political cases in the High Court and her grassroots engagement contributed to her nomination.
Reacting to the nomination, Sakila Farzana said, “I am grateful to the party leadership for entrusting me with this responsibility. It is both an honour and a commitment to work for the country.”
