Two daughters-in-law from Katiadi upazila in Kishoreganj are drawing attention in local politics as they seek nomination from the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) for a reserved women’s seat in the 13th National Parliament. They are Fahima Hossain Jubli and Advocate Runa Laila Runa.

Fahima Hossain Jubli is the daughter-in-law of social worker Md. Nurul Amin of Kargaon Union and the wife of Ruhul Amin Akil, a former central vice-president of Jubo Dal. Advocate Runa Laila Runa is the daughter-in-law of the late Habibur Rahman Dayal, former president of Katiadi Upazila BNP, former upazila chairman, and former MP. She is the wife of late businessman Omar Faruk Mintu.

Fahima Hossain Jubli has long been active in BNP politics in Dhaka. She previously served as a member of parliament for a reserved women’s seat. Her past roles include chairman of the Bangladesh National Women’s Cricket Committee, deputy general secretary of Chhatra Dal central committee, member secretary of Dhaka District Jatiyatabadi Mohila Dal, and women’s affairs secretary of Dhaka District BNP.

Her husband, Ruhul Amin Akil, has held several key positions in BNP and its affiliated bodies at both district and central levels. He also sought party nomination for the Kishoreganj-2 (Katiadi-Pakundia) constituency.

Advocate Runa Laila Runa is currently the president of Dhaka Metropolitan North Mohila Dal. She previously served as its member secretary and as legal affairs secretary of Zia Parishad.

Her father-in-law, the late Habibur Rahman Bhuiyan Dayal, was a former upazila BNP president, upazila chairman, and MP. Her husband, the late Omar Faruk Mintu, also contested the Kishoreganj-2 constituency.

Speaking about her candidacy, Fahima Hossain Jubli said she has remained active in BNP politics despite facing attacks, legal cases, and imprisonment. She expressed hope that her political experience and sacrifices would be considered in the nomination process. She also pledged to work for democracy and women’s empowerment if nominated.

Advocate Runa Laila Runa said her family has long-standing political ties and that she faced imprisonment and repression during the previous government period. She expects the party to evaluate leaders based on their contributions and sacrifices. She expressed optimism about securing the nomination based on her experience and family background.
