Ahead of the upcoming Union Parishad election, political activity has increased in Gadaipur Union No. 7 under Paikgachha Upazila in Khulna. Grassroots BNP leaders and activists, local voters and political observers are discussing who may receive party backing for the chairman post.
After talking with local residents, ward-level leaders and political activists, Md. Qayum Hossain has emerged as one of the most discussed potential candidates.
Locals say his growing acceptance is not based only on political identity. His educational background, family political legacy, personal image and long involvement in local politics have helped build trust among voters. Supporters also claim he is gaining popularity among young and middle-aged voters.
Political observers say Union Parishad elections are influenced not only by party affiliation, but also by personal reputation, social involvement and organizational ability. In that context, many see Md. Qayum Hossain as a possible strong contender.
Sources in the local political arena said Qayum Hossain, a graduate, has been involved in nationalist politics since his student years. He has participated in various BNP programs and remained active during difficult periods for the party. Residents say his regular contact with local people and leaders has strengthened his position at the grassroots level.
Local residents and party activists also highlight his family’s political background. His father served as a member of Gadaipur Union Parishad and was elected general secretary of the Gadaipur Union BNP. Many senior residents remember him as an honest and people-oriented political figure.
Shahinur Rahman, joint convener of Thana Chhatra Dal, said, “Very few political families in Gadaipur Union have maintained long-term connections with ordinary people. Qayum Hossain represents that legacy. We see him as an educated and responsible young leader.”
Several grassroots BNP leaders, speaking anonymously, said multiple individuals are seeking nomination, but Qayum Hossain is ahead in terms of organizational acceptance and public image. They also said he has avoided controversy and maintained a moderate political approach.
Many young voters believe educated and development-focused leadership is important for the union. Some said they want a chairman who remains connected to people beyond election periods and works for practical development.
Discussions about possible BNP candidates are continuing in markets, tea stalls and local political gatherings across the union. Some residents believe that if BNP prioritizes a publicly accepted and organizationally active candidate, Md. Qayum Hossain may receive serious consideration.
Political observers say personal relationships, community participation and long-term grassroots involvement remain key factors in local elections. They believe Qayum Hossain’s involvement in social, religious and humanitarian activities has strengthened his public image.
However, BNP has not officially announced any candidate for the election. Competition among potential nominees continues, though local discussions increasingly mention Md. Qayum Hossain as a possible contender.
Political analysts say grassroots support, organizational activity and public perception are likely to play major roles in BNP’s nomination decision for Gadaipur Union.
