Train communication between Dhaka and northern Bangladesh was suspended on Tuesday morning after a carriage of the Dhaka-bound Silk City Express derailed in Sirajganj. The incident occurred at around 10:55 am at the Shaheed M Mansur Ali Railway Station near the western end of the Jamuna Bridge.
According to station officials a coach suddenly veered off the tracks as the intercity train from Rajshahi pulled into the station. No casualties or injuries were reported.
However the disruption left several services stranded, including the Nilphamari-bound Nilsagar Express waiting at Saidabad station. Sirajganj Railway Senior Sub-Assistant Engineer Ahsanur Rahman stated that a relief train has been dispatched from Pabna’s Ishwardi junction to clear the tracks. Normal rail operations are expected to resume once rescue operations are completed.
