US Official Meets Energy Minister to Strengthen Energy Sector Cooperation

​Eric Geelan, Political and Economic Counselor at the US Embassy in Dhaka, paid a courtesy call and held a bilateral meeting with Iqbal Hasan Mahmud, Minister for Power, Energy, and Mineral Resources.

​The meeting took place on Tuesday (August 4) at the Minister's office in the Ministry of Power, Energy, and Mineral Resources. Joseph Boski, Economic Officer at the US Embassy, was also present as part of the delegation.

​The discussions focused cordially on expanding the energy sector between the two nations, enhancing cooperation in the Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) and LPG sectors, and signing potential Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs). Special emphasis was placed on strengthening bilateral government cooperation and increasing US business participation in Bangladesh's energy sector ahead of the Prime Minister's upcoming visit to the United States.

​The bilateral meeting also featured candid discussions on existing challenges and their practical solutions. Minister Iqbal Hasan Mahmud emphasized convening follow-up meetings with relevant stakeholders as quickly as possible to ensure energy security. In response, the US delegation expressed its commitment to providing full support toward the continuous progress of Bangladesh's energy sector.
