A colorful cultural event and competition marking 'Nazrul Year' was held at the historic Bahadur Shah Park in the capital, centered on a call to guide the new generation toward equality, humanity, and non-communal values. Organized by the Dhaka District Administration, the program aimed to familiarize students with the life, literature, and philosophy of National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam.
Cultural Affairs Minister Nitai Roy Chowdhury inaugurated the event on Monday at 10:00 AM. Speaking as the chief guest, he remarked that Kazi Nazrul Islam is not just the national poet, but a symbol of equality and humanity whose writings served as a powerful weapon against injustice, exploitation, and oppression.
The minister emphasized that Nazrul’s literature and philosophy inspire young people to become patriotic and empathetic citizens. He urged that Nazrul's ideals should extend beyond textbooks and cultural events to become a central part of the younger generation's daily lives.
Presiding over the function, Dhaka Deputy Commissioner Farida Khanam noted that the true success of the event lies in giving students the opportunity to connect with Nazrul's philosophy and integrate his humanistic principles into their personal and social lives.
The event, arranged under the overall management of the Dhaka District Administration, was attended by special guests including Cultural Affairs Secretary Kaniz Maula, Dhaka Divisional Commissioner Md. Moniruzzaman Miah, and Jasas President Helal Khan.
Students from various educational institutions across the capital, along with teachers, parents, political and cultural figures, and journalists, participated in the program. The opening session was followed by student competitions in poetry recitation, Nazrul Sangeet, and literary performances aimed at promoting patriotism and non-communal values among youth.
