Strong demands have been raised to officially declare Faridpur a division, upgrade its municipality to a city corporation and construct a second Padma Bridge at the Daulatdia-Paturia point.

Local leaders also pressed for the establishment of a public university, an agricultural research center and a new economic zone to unlock Greater Faridpur’s full potential.

These proposals were highlighted during a coordination meeting on regional law and order and development for Faridpur, Rajbari and Gopalganj. The view-exchange meeting took place at the Faridpur Deputy Commissioner’s conference room on Monday afternoon.

Addressing the event as the chief guest National Assembly Whip Mia Nuruddin Ahmed Apu pledged to modernize the region. "We will change Faridpur and strive to make Greater Faridpur a model," he said, noting that while the current government inherited a struggling economy and it is working steadily to meet the public's needs.

State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaid, who joined virtually, emphasized the necessity of forming anti-narcotics committees from the union to the upazila levels to eradicate drug abuse through collective action.

Meanwhile, State Minister for Cultural Affairs Ali Newaz Mahmud Khayyam pointed out that a lack of unity among local leaders has historically stalled regional progress. He urged for cohesive leadership to accelerate the desired pace of development.

The meeting was attended by several regional Members of Parliament, the Faridpur Police Superintendent and the District Council Administrator who all echoed the necessity of unified efforts to ensure the Greater Faridpur region keeps pace with national modernization.
