US Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC) has intensified her push for President Trump’s impeachment, asserting that a recently announced temporary ceasefire with Iran "changed nothing."
The latest surge in criticism follows a social media post by Trump just before a key deadline, in which he stated, "A civilization will be wiped off the face of the earth forever today." The comment triggered immediate international condemnation.
Domestic opposition to the President has also reached a fever pitch. Critics point to the trillions of dollars spent on the conflict, which many argue has destabilized the U.S. economy. Furthermore, a growing "No Kings" movement—sparked by what protesters call authoritarian governance and controversial new laws—saw an estimated eight million people take to the streets last month. Organizers claim it is the largest mobilization in American history.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), AOC emphasized that the threat remains imminent. "The president has threatened genocide against the Iranian people and is still carrying out that threat," she wrote. "We can no longer put the world and our country at risk."
AOC called for immediate action from either the Cabinet or Congress, stating, "The president must be removed from power. We are at the brink of disaster." Her stance is echoed by dozens of Democratic lawmakers who maintain that the ceasefire does not negate the need for the President’s removal.
