


The International Crimes Tribunal has accepted formal charges against 22 individuals, including former minister Hasan Mahmud, former MP ABM Fazle Karim Chowdhury, former State Minister for Education Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury Nowfel, and former Chattogram mayor AJM Nasir Uddin, in a case over alleged crimes against humanity during the July mass uprising.
The tribunal also issued arrest warrants against 18 absconding accused.
The order was passed on Tuesday (April 7) by a three-member bench of Tribunal-2, led by Chairman Justice Nazrul Islam Chowdhury, after a hearing.
Those facing arrest warrants include Hasan Mahmud, Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury Nowfel, AJM Nasir Uddin, Rezaul Karim, Mohiuddin Bachchu, Helal Akbar, Nurul Azim Roni, Shoibal Das Sumon, Abu Salek, Esbarul Haque, HM Mithu, Nur Mostafa Tinu, Debashish Pal Debu, Zamir Uddin, Imran Hasan Mahmud, Zakaria Dastagir, Mohiuddin Farhad, and Sumon Dey.
Earlier, on April 5, the prosecution submitted formal charges against 22 accused, outlining three major allegations, including the killing of six people.
According to the charges, Md. Wasim Akram, Faisal Ahmed Shanto, and Md. Faruk were killed in Chattogram on July 16, 2024. Another charge relates to the deaths of Tanvir Siddiqui, Simon, and Hridoy Chandra. The case also includes allegations of serious injuries to more than 100 people.
Of the 22 accused, four are currently in custody: former MP ABM Fazle Karim Chowdhury, Jubo League leader Azizur Rahman, Touhidul Islam, and Md. Firoz.
