Major (retd) Muzaffar Hossain an accused in the assassination of former President Ziaur Rahman, was produced before the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) on Thursday morning on separate charges of crimes against humanity.

A judicial panel led by Tribunal-2 Chairman Justice Nazrul Islam Chowdhury is scheduled to hold a hearing today. The prosecution who secured a production warrant on July 21 intends to seek his formal arrest and interrogation regarding crimes allegedly committed during the previous Awami League administration.

Muzaffar had evaded law enforcement for nearly 45 years before his capture at a residence in Banani Dhaka, on the night of July 15. He was handed over to the Dhaka Cantonment Military Police the following day.

In a related development Lieutenant General (retd) Masud Uddin Chowdhury was also produced before the tribunal today. The prosecution had previously requested a two-month extension to submit their investigation report regarding his alleged involvement in crimes against humanity during the July 24 mass uprising in Feni. However the court withheld setting a new submission date amid allegations of collusion between Masud and Muzaffar.
